Gambian Selection Leaves for Spain

A selection of players drawn from Steve Biko, Bakau United, and Seaview, will over the weekend leave Banjul for Spain via Dakar to take part in a ten day friendly football tournament organized by KGH sports through the partnership of Kingston sports in Dakar.

Kemo Ceesay of Steve Biko who is one of the organizers of the trip told Pointsports that if the plan goes as expected, the team will leave the country during the weekend to participate in this friendly tournament which is scheduled to run Friday 15th to 20th May 2009.

He told our reporter that the main objective of the tourney is to establish contact with their Spanish counterparts so as to help the Gambian talents realize their dreams of playing on foreign soil.

The Gambian team, Kemo Ceesay revealed, will be hosted by City of Football Complex in Madrid adding that they will also conduct a tour of the Real Madrid Stadium as part of the trip.

The Gambian side will open the tournament when they lock horns with Rayo Majadahonda before taking on their next opponent Atletico De Madrid  which will take place at the City of Football Complex in Madrid. The Gambian side according to Kemo Ceesay will also be involved in a two-day training sessions with youth coaches of Real Madrid Fc on the 17th and 18th  as part of their  visit before wrapping up their group fixtures against Rajo Vallecano and Madrid FC on the 19th and 20th of May respectively.

The team is expected back home on Sunday 24th May 2009

Officials included Hatib Janneh, Kemo Ceesay, Ousman Sillah and Peter Smith.

And the technicians are Coach Alagie Sarr and Sarjo Sillah.

Meanwhile, Pateh Nyang and Saihou Gassama who are understood to have left the country for trials have been dropped.
