According to media reports, the NTCG party leader, Sheikh Sedia Bayo, a French born-Gambian dissident based in France, was arrested in Senegal on Friday and detained at the central police in Dakar.

The Senegalese authorities are yet to explain the reason for his arrest but his lawyer, Assane Diouma Ndiaye, contacted by the press, said it could be linked to certain remarks he made on Wednesday after the “terrorist attack” in The Gambia.

Mr Bayo is the president of the National Transitional Council for The Gambia (NTCG).

In a related development, Mrs Tida Njie, mother of the ringleader of the “terrorist attack” in The Gambia, LT. Colonel Lamin Sanneh, former commander of the state guard, has been arrested since last Thursday by security agents for questioning.

The Senegalese authorities have also denounced the attack in The Gambia.
