Champion of the 2019 Gambia Open golf tournament Dodou Kassama has appealed for support from the Government, private sector, NGOs, philanthropists to enable his participate in the African tour which will be hosted in Nigeria.

Kassama also intends to participate in Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Cameroon Opens. He also expressed intention to register for this year’s US Open qualifiers set to take place in April, highlighting that golf cannot go without sponsorship.

Mr. Kassama described the 2019 Gambia Open organised by The Gambia Golf Association as a success, adding that he had a slow start on the first day but was able to make up the second and third days.

Kassama, who lifted the trophy on three occasions (2014, 2016 and 2019) played down suggestions that he is currently Gambia’s best professional golfer. He stated that they had a good preparation for the tournament, saying in golf, one can have a bad round or a bad hole.

Edi Jammeh who finished as runner-up of the 2019 Gambia Open said his target was to lift this year’s trophy but said in golf, one can be unlucky. He expressed readiness to continue working hard, saying he have the belief and confidence that in the near future he will be The Gambia’s Open or a sub-regional title. “We definitely need support and sponsorship as professional golfers,” he highlighted.
