Jul 28, 2017, 1:02 PM | Article By: Njie Baldeh

As part of making artistic work as a profession, Lamin Secka, a young Gambian design artist is making waves in the profession in the capital city of Banjul.

Born in 1986 on Gloucester Street in Banjul, he has produced a lot of artistic work for the people in the city as he is the only artistic designer in the capital.

In a chat with The Point Entertainment and Life style recently, Lamin Secka, said he has been involved in art since the age of fifteen years.

“I graduated from Muslim High but before then, I had started doing art as a profession,” he said.

I was inspired by my father and the society and I decided to do arts as my profession because my father inspired me even though he was a carpenter.

For me I focus on painting, making jars, writing on shirts as well as creating other artistic works.

I also travelled to Senegal to take part in artistic programmes within the Senegambia region and that has been three times only that I have participated in any art exhibition.

I have never taken part in any Gambia art competition but I witnessed artistic programmes where I have learned from them too and shared ideas with them.

I do both fine art and performing arts and also some part time music on hip-hop, singing in Wolof and in English.

He called for more support for his work so he could reach higher heights.
