The
Gambia U-18 Beach Volleyball team has moved to camp prior to African Youth
Games to be hosted in Algeria this month. The team opened their preparations on
Saturday for this month African youth Games which will be held from 17 to 28
July.
Mariama
Ginadou and Fatoumatta Sillah - two members of the Gambian national team who
made a great transition from the African dream project centers - headline the
team selection that also includes two male players under coach Pa Barrow.
According
to the Gambia Volleyball Federation (GVBF), the eight-day training camp will
run until Sunday, July 15 before departing for Algiers on July 16. The team is camped at the GFF house in Yundum
and is fully funded by Gambia National Olympic Committee.
Gambia
is ranked among favourites to secure the sole ticket on offer for Youth Summer
Games in Argentina this year. The Gambia indoor youth team also booked
qualifications to the games but the ministry of youth and sports is yet to
commit their support to fund the team.
