The Gambia National U-20 team is set to leave Banjul today, Thursday 23 June 2016, for Dakar for their international friendly match against Senegal’s National U-20 team billed for next Sunday in Dakar.

Coach Omar Sise and his charges will use the international friendly against the Young Terrenga Lions to prepare themselves well for their crunch 2017 African U-20 Youth championship final qualifiers first leg clash at home to Guinea Conakry on 10 June 2016, in Banjul, before the second leg in Conakry in a fortnight’s time.

The Young Terrenga Lions, on the other hand, will also use the friendly tie against the Darling Scorpions to prepare themselves well for their crucial 2017 African U-20 Youth championship final qualifiers first leg clash with Ghana next month.

It would be recalled that the Darling Scorpions sailed to the final round of the 2017 African U-20 Youth Championship qualifiers following their 7-6 penalty shootout win over Morocco, after a 1-1 aggregate draw in both legs in the second round of the qualifiers. Before Morocco, they eliminated Sierra Leone in the first round 4-0 on aggregate.

The winners of the final round of the qualifiers will join the host nation Zambia in the 2017 African U-20 Youth Championship next year.
