Gambia U-20 arrives home after Liberia WAFU triumph

The Gambia National U-20 team arrived home from Monrovia, Liberia on Sunday 6 May after their 2018 Fox Sport WAFU football tournament final triumph over the host nation Liberia.

The young Scorpions defeated Young Leone Star 2-1 in a keenly contested final game played at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Stadium in Monrovia on Saturday to clinch the Sub-regional football tournament title.

Jubilant Scorpions fan club members and football fans across the Greater Banjul and its environs welcomed the team to the Gambia Football Federation Secretariat in Kanifing East Lay out.

The Young Scorpions lifted the trophy without a defeat after drawing their two opening group matches against Guinea Conakry and Senegal before beating Mali 1-0 in their final group match to finish second spot in group B with 5 points in three group matches.

The Gambia beat tournament favourite Ivory Coast 8-7 on penalties in the semifinal to reach the final before defeating the host Liberia 2-1 in the final to claim the trophy.
