Gambia set for revenge mission against Benin in AFCON Qualifiers

Gambia is set for revenge mission against Benin in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after slipping away to the Squirrels 1-0 in the first leg fixture in Cotonou last year.

The Scorpions have little chance of making their debut in the continent’s biggest football gala following their dismal performances in their previous qualifier matches with only 2 points in group D in four matches.

They will be determined to overcome Benin in the return-leg to snatch their first-ever victory in the qualifiers after losing at home to Togo 1-0 in Banjul last month. The Squirrels of Benin are level on points with Algeria in group D of the qualifiers with 7 points each in four group matches.

A victory over the Scorpions in the return-leg will certainly earn them a place in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Cameroon. Togo will welcome Algeria in the other group match in Lome.

The Hawks are third-place in group D with 5 points after four group matches and two points behind the Desert Foxes, who gripped 7 points in four group matches.
