Former Gambian CAF and FIFA referee Alagie Ebrima Faye has said that Gambian footballers need proper marketing agents to market them in Europe.

Faye, who spoke recently to Pointsport in an exclusive interview at The Point offices, said “lack of good agents” for Gambian players is hampering their prospects of breaking their way into top leagues like the English premiership and others across Europe.

“The agents who come to The Gambia to scout for good players lack experience; that is why Gambian players cannot make their trade in Europe’s top leagues,” he said, adding: “The Gambia Football Association (GFA) should organise U-15 tournament for clubs to invite championship teams and premiership delegates to come and scout for good players in The Gambia.”

Faye said that in the recent past, the GFA used to invite teams from England and other European countries during off-seasons to organise test matches in the country.

The former CAF referee challenged the GFA to invite clubs from different parts of the world, especially the English Premier League, for test matches in a bid to give the country’s talented players the opportunity to be taken abroad for trials.
