Senegalese High Commissioner over the
weekend led the opening of a two-day universal health coverage forum hosted in
The Gambia at Metzy Hotel in Kololi. The two day forum was organized by
Senegalese Community in the country.
Commissioner Saliou Ndiaye said the forum was an important one and would be of immense benefit to their host The Gambia.
He expressed appreciation for the organisation of the forum, saying that Gambia and Senegal shares the same language and culture and no one can separate them. “You can hardly differentiate people of the two countries. The purpose of this meeting is to bring people as one and to work as a team.”
He assured them of Senegal government commitment to provide the needs of her people including those outside of the country. “President Macky Sall has done a lot for Senegalese community in The Gambia and had promised to do more. He also promised to help the Senegalese school in The Gambia and to build a new Embassy in The Gambia.”
Dr. Mamadi Cham, a senior health officer at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare thanked the Senegalese community for organizing the forum.
He said Universal health coverage means one can have access to health services wherever he is. “Today, we are here because we are healthy. So this universal health coverage is a good initiative and many people will benefit from it.”
