Gambia High, Bottrop win principals cup champions

Gambia Senior Secondary School and Bottrop Secondary School have been crowned champions of the 2018 Guaranty Trust Bank Gambia Limited -sponsored principals cup inter-schools football tournament.

Organized by the Secondary Schools Association, the final was graced by Abolaji Yusuff, GTBank Executive Director, Akintayo Backley, Deputy General Manager GTBank and other senior officials of the Bank. Hosts of senior officials from GFF were also in attendance as well as dozens of secondary school students and fans were at the Independence Stadium in Bakau to cheer up their schools.

Gambia High downed Bottrop 1-0 with Kumba Kuyateh’s lone goal proving enough to ensure their claim to the female football tournament title.

 Bottrop thrashed Bakoteh to lift the male football championship title.

 Ablie Manneh notched in a brace before Yankuba Minteh pull back one for Bakoteh.

Babucarr Camara netted the third goal to inspire Bottrop to a resounding 3-1 victory over Bakoteh.

As champions Gambia High and Bottrop each received gold medals and a giant trophy as well as cash prizes of D75, 000.

Runner-ups Bakoteh and Bottrop each received a consolation prize of D50,000 while third place Nasir and Mingdow each received medals and cash prize of D20,000.

The leading goal scorer award in the female category went to Kumba Kuyateh of Gambia High.

Matty Manga of Mingdaw won the best goalkeeper award, while Fatou Sonko of Bottrop won the best player award.

 In the male category, Abbdoulie Baldeh of Bottrop won the highest scorer, best goalkeeper award went to Ebrima Fadera of Bottrop while the outstanding player of the tournament award went to Yankuba Minteh of Bakoteh.
