Gambia High, Bottrop clinch GTBank principal’s cup titles

Gambia Senior Secondary School and Kinderdorf Bottrop Technical Senior Secondary Schools, Sunday clinched the male and female titles of the 2019 inter-school football tournament principal’s cup, sponsored by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).

Organised by The Gambia Secondary School Sports Association (GSSA), Gambia Senior Secondary School defeated Nasir 4-1in the final played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau to lift the male category trophy.

Dawda Sankareh opened the scores for Gambia Senior Secondary School in the 9th minute of the match before Kutubo scores the second goal in the 19th minute to dash Nasir Senior Secondary School’s hopes of coming back to their feet. Abdoulie Baldeh netted the third and fourth goals in the 39th and at the stoppage time.

Alieu Baldeh’s 43rd minute strike only proved to be a consolation for Nasir Senior Secondary School.

Bottrop Senior Secondary School defeated Gambia Senior Secondary School by 9-8 on post-match penalty shootout to claim the female category trophy after the regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw.

Kaddy Bayo opened the scores for Gambia Senior Secondary School before Fatou Sonko level for Bottrop.

As champions, Gambia Senior Secondary School and Kinderdorf Bottrop male teams were each decorated with gold medals and cash prices of D75, 000 while Gambia Senior Secondary School and Nasir female teams each received D50, 000 as runner ups.

 Essa Sallah of Gambia Senior School received a trophy as the best player of the male tournament and Abdoulie Baldeh of Gambia Senior Secondary school was awarded as the leading goal scorer. Modou Bah was awarded as the best goalkeeper.

Fatou Fatty of Gambia Senior Secondary received a trophy as the best player of the female tournament while Fatou Sonko was rewarded with the leading goal scorer. Amine Sidibeh was awarded as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Speaking to The Point sports shortly after the match, Gambia Senior Secondary School head coach, Saikou Sanneh expressed delight for the victory.
