Youth (boys) volleyball team has earned a spot in the 3rd African Youth Games
following their qualification from Zone II after Senegal and Guinea failed to
participate in the elimination rounds that were slated in Banjul last weekend.
The Gambia Volleyball Federation is now preparing to send a strong youth team to Algeria this July for their maiden appearance in the games that will start from 17 to 27 July.
The African Youth Games is an international multi-sport event held every four years to complement the current All-Africa Games. The first game was hosted in Rabat, Morocco. Lassana Palenfo, current director of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, created the international sportive event.
The idea came in 2006 but the first African Youth Games only occurred in 2010. The 3rd African Youth Games will take place in Algeria’s capital, Algiers.
