Gambia gains 1st gold medal at African Games

Gambia beach volleyball team have gained their first ever gold medal in the 2019 African Games in Morocco after beating host Morocco 2-1 (21-17, 17-21, 17-15) in the final.

The matches were attended by FIVB President Dr. Ary Graca and CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani.

The thrilling final day began with two semifinals where the Moroccan double Abicha/Elgraoui surprised the experienced South African Goldschmidt/Williams 2-0 (21-16, 23-21) while dark horses Gambia’s Jawo/Jarra took on struggling Rwanda’s Ntagengwa/Kavalo 2-0 (21-18, 21-16).

 The exciting three-set final showed stronger performance as the Gambians fought aggressively to beat the Moroccan team supported by their spectators.
