Lecturers at The Gambia College yesterday began a sit-down strike over what they described as late payment of salaries.
“We are demanding for the immediate payment of our July salaries from the relevant authorities. Until our salaries are paid, there will be no work at the collage and we will withhold all the students’ attestation pending the payment of our salaries,” our source who wants to remain anonymous said.
Students that are about to leave the school, our source added, will not be given their attestation until their July salaries are paid and some of their resolutions are met. “We need a commitment from the administration that late payment of salaries will become the thing of past in the collage for the fact that we receive salary payment 10 days after the end of every month.”
“The sit-down strike has begun and until we are paid, there will be no work at the collage.”
Our reporter has been reliably informed that the lecturers have laid down their resolution and that if they are not met the strike will continue.
