government of the People’s Republic of China Monday extended its benevolence by
donating equipment to the National Assembly of The Gambia signaling some sense
of reconnection between the two legislatives bodies after two decades.
The donated items that were valued at 14 million dalasis include: laptops, printers, microphones duplicator, drum unit for printer, toners for photos copy, paper feed unit photo copier, automatic Doc feeder and mouse & bags.
During the presentation, His Excellency, Zhang Jimming, the ambassador extraordinary of the People’s Republic of China, disclosed that the donated items were valued 14 million dalasis.
“The legislative bodies of our two countries were reconnected after an interruption of more than two decades,” he said.
“The ensuing expeditious establishment of inter-parliamentary bilateral friendship groups in the National Assembly of The Gambia and the National People’s Congress of China demonstrates how much importance the two sides attach to this relationship and how high the expectation is for the inter-parliamentary links.”
He further said that the China government and The Gambia government has once again reaffirmed that on the basis of One-China principle, and in the spirit of mutual respect and sincerity, China and the Gambia will forever be good friends and partners
.Hon. spearker of the National Assembly, Madam Mariam Back Denton, said it all began on Tuesday Jun. 20, 2017, when His Excellency, the ambassador called on the Office of the Speaker of the National Assembly of The Gambia.
“The intent was to promote and strengthen bilateral relations between the government and people of The Gambia and the People’s Republic of China, as well as strengthening and promoting friendly relationship and ties between the two respective national legislation bodies.
She concluded that the National Assembly as an institution is deeply touched and moved by these gestures and prayed that the relationship continues to grow from strength to strength and extend to other areas like capacity building of both members and staff of the National Assembly of The Gambia and exchange visits between our two institutions.
