Gambia-Cape Verde friendly called off

Thursday, August 24, 2017

The Gambia Football Federation has announced that a proposed international friendly match between the female national team and their Cape Verde counterparts has been cancelled.

The GFF said it received with regrets the information from Cape Verde Football Federation that the proposed friendly international involving the two countries female national teams would no longer be possible.

This, according to Cape Verde, is due to technical reasons beyond their control thus their female national team cannot make up the planned trip to The Gambia for the friendly warm-up with the Gambia Female Scorpions, stated the GFF media release.

The GFF therefore informs the public that the friendly match set aside for August 26, 2017 is now called off and “sincerely apologizes to the public” for the inconvenience the change of scheduled may cause.

Nonetheless the GFF is at advanced stages with potential match organizers for an alternative friendly, notably with Guinea Bissau, for the female national team later in September, he said.

The warm-up for the female team is to prepare them for their eventual continental qualifiers in 2018 where The Gambia is expected to take part actively.
