The high command of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) has effected some postings and appointments and also upgraded certain military units into full battalions.

Army PRO, Lt Col Omar B. Bojang, said the restructuring was part of the transformation process of the army and in line with efforts to make the armed forces “more efficient and responsive to the security challenges”.

Consequently, the commanding officer of Guards Battalion, Colonel Essa Tamba, has been replaced by Lieutenant Colonel Yorro N.A. Jallow.

The commanding officer 1, Infantry Battalion, Colonel Sait Njie, has been replaced by Lieutenant Colonel Baboucarr Sanyang.

Also, the commanding officer 2nd Infantry Battalion Colonel Salifu Bojang has been replaced by Lieutenant Colonel Samba Baldeh.

In the same vein, Kanilai Garrison is now a Battalion under the Gambia National Army and is commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Sarjo Jarju and the Basse camp has been upgraded to a Battalion and it is commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Pierre J. Mendy.

GAF PRO Bojang said the replaced commanding officers are reposted back to the defence headquarters to take up new assignments and responsibilities.

“The postings and appointments and upgrading of certain units is in line with the standardisation and harmonisation of our military to meet international standards,” he explained.
