Gambia’s Africa Cup of Nations qualification is in serious doubt following the Scorpions 1-0 defeat at home to Togo on Tuesday.

Ayite Floyd scored for Togo in the dying minutes of the encounter leaving the Independent Stadium in absolute silence. Togo, who had their skipper sent-off in the early stage of the second period were more tactically discipline than The Gambia who now face an uphill task to qualify for its first ever African Cup of Nations.

Scorpions were in high spirit coming into the game following their away draw with Togo last Friday. The defeat left Gambian fans very disappointed after coming in their large numbers to cheer the Scorpions who rewarded them with another disappointment.

The defeat leaves The Gambia languishing at the bottom of the table with 2 points, while Togo now climes to 3rd position with 5 points. Algeria tops the group on goal difference leveling with 2nd place Benin with each 7 points.

Meanwhile Algeria were also defeated 1-0 by Benin earlier on Tuesday. Sessi D’Almeida scored for Benin in the 16th minutes.
