GAF glooms continue in CAF club competition

Thursday, December 06, 2018

Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) gloominess continues in the African continent football club competition, following their shock exit from the 2018-2019 CAF Confederations cup.

The Soldier boys lost to Ivorian side FC San Pedro 1-0 in the return-leg fixture played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Tuesday evening.

Gambia’s FF cup champions needed only a goalless draw against FC San Pedro in the Banjul return-leg to advance to the second round following their 1-1 draw with the Ivorian side in the first-leg played in Abidjan last week.

They were shown the exit door after FC San Pedro netted their single goal in the match to sail to the second round. The Soldiers will now shift their attention to the country’s domestic league after their recent elimination from the CAF Confederations cup by the Ivorian side.

The victory earned FC San Pedro a place in the second round of the CAF Confederations cup after their slender win over Gambia Armed Forces.

They were kicked-out of last year’s CAF champions league after slipping to Zambian side Zanaco FC by 6-1 on aggregate in the first round.
