Former judicial accountant charged, released on bail

Mr. Ansuman Sonko, former Judicial Accountant and now the Principal Accountant at the Department of Medical and Health was the latest to be arrested and charged, following an alleged scam at the Sheriff Division of the High Court, in which some senior judicial officials are currently standing trial.

He was also on 9th December 2009 arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates' Court, charged with stealing by clerk or servant, a charge he vehemently denied.

According to the particulars of offence, between the year 2005 to 2009, at the Sheriff Division of the High Court, being a civil servant allegedly stole 900 pound sterling, equivalent to D48, 600, being the property of The Gambia government.

He was subsequently granted bail by Magistrate Emmanuel Nkea in the sum of D200, 000, with two Gambian sureties, all of whom, must have a landed property within the Greater Banjul Areas.

He was also ordered to deposit his travelling documents with the court.

The case was at length adjourned to 23 December 2009.
