Foreign-based players arrive ahead of Benin AFCON Qualifier return-leg

Gambian foreign-based players will arrive in Banjul today Monday before the country’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nation qualifier return-leg tie with Benin on Saturday at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

Muhammed Mbaye, Ebrima Colley and Bubacarr Jobe are all expected to make their debut for the country’s senior national team against Benin, after Coach Tom Sainfiet invited the trio.

Modou Secka Barrow, Mustapha Carayol, Omar Colley, Hamza Barry, Bubacarr Steve Trawally and Tijan Jaiteh are not included in Coach Sainfiet’s squad for the return-leg clash with the Squirrels.

The Scorpions will hold their first training session tomorrow Tuesday to prepare themselves fit enough and ready for the match. The Gambia has a slim chance to qualify for the continent’s biggest football fiesta with only two points after losing two matches and drawing two and five points behind joint group leaders Algeria and Benin, who have secured 7 points each.

Coach Tom Sainfiet and his charges will brawl for revenge after slipping away to Benin 1-0 in the opening day of the qualifiers in Cotonou last year.
