Dinding Federation; a ChildFund The Gambia local partner have recently gave forty sheep to families of
their enrolled children within the five districts of the Federation’s coverage
Speaking at the handing over ceremony held at Kalagi, Foni Jarrol district, Federation manager Edy Bah said the support came from ChildFund’s non-sponsorship program meant for family economic empowerment.
He noted that most of the households do not have small ruminants to bankroll some of their domestic needs and children’s basic needs. Saying, they believe that the sheep would help beneficiary families to raise their income levels.
Mr. Bah urged the beneficiaries to take great care of the animals to serve the purpose and to enable his federation to provide more support to other needy families.
Program coordinator Samba Keita said the beneficiary families came from Berefet, Bintang Karanai, Kansla, Bondali and Jarrol districts targeted to enable them to have access to sheep rearing and to improve their economic levels and also provide local employment.
He urged the beneficiaries to be monitoring the animals to ensure that they receive medical checkups and vaccination.
Vice chairperson of the Federation board Yahya Tamba said the support is part of their commitment to supporting the deprived, excluded and vulnerable families, noting that livestock is the main source of livelihood and is expected to eventually generate profit for the beneficiaries.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Arokey Camara and Alagie Camara both commended the Federation for the support and promised that the sheep will be properly taken care of.
