National Seed Secretariat (NSS) will organise the first National Seed Fair in
Gambia’s rural communities of Brikamaba and Farafenni this weekend, to enable
farmers to have access to quality and quantity seed.
The event also targets to enable seed producers, marketers and input dealers to present their products to prospective customers. This is expected to create a platform for linkage between seed growers, input dealers and farmers.
Brikamaba will host the event on Saturday 15 June while Farafenni will host it on Monday, 17 June.
Director General of the National Seed Secretariat (NSS), Morro Manga, said the fair is funded by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, under the agriculture and economic growth seed certification service component project.
He said the seed fair was conceived by the NSS, FAO and other relevant stakeholders to leverage farmers’ access to quality seeds in adequate quantities and other farm inputs such as fertilizer and chemicals in preparation for the 2019 cropping season.
