A humanitarian charity call Filifeh Foundation, Saturday provided Iftar to needy Gambians as part of their commitment to help needy people during the Muslim Holy month of Ramadan.

The foundation was established last year by Hagie Baniko Sissoko, proprietor of Star FM Radio/TV to help needy Gambians and the less-privileged.

Speaking at the ceremony held at his residence in Churchills Town, Mr. Sissoko said he has been helping needy students over the past six years and hope to continue the same gesture as he now create a foundation.

He said he inherited the generosity from his grandparents who were farmers and used to help the needy after harvest. He said there are still many people out there who need help, calling on other privileged people to help the unprivileged.

Public Relations Officer of The Gambia Armed Forces Major Lamin K. Sanyang, who graced the occasion commended Sissoko for the initiative, particularly coming during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Alpha Karaga, chief executive officer of Star FM/TV and co-founder of Filifeh Foundation explained that they used to receive requests from Gambians seeking assistance for their education before the establishment of the Foundation in 2018.

Mr. Karaga revealed that they have spent over D700, 000 in supporting needy people which, he said inspired them to establish the Foundation. “Annually, the Foundation spends over D500, 000 in helping the needy.”
