Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has announced that the 2017 Edition of the
Super Nawetan tournament will kick-off on Sunday 15 October, 2017.
GFF added that the tournament is still enjoying the patronage of FIBank as exclusive sponsors, and thus it will continue to be called, FIBank Super Nawetan Tournament.
The GFF said two new nawetan zones have been admitted into the tournament: Foni and Kombo East being the latest addition increasing the existing 12 zones, GFF announced.
The Gambia Football Federation says the increment from 12 to 14 zones was meant to expand the tournament and engender competition amongst the zones.
The GFF also said that it is focused on its strategic development plan, which among others is a rebuilding process and long-term agenda, aimed at developing the younger generation of players from the grassroots; and thus as part of its plans will in the near future expand the tournament and further nationalise it to cover all the regions.
The 2017 FIBank super nawetanGame Directors is chaired by Rtd Lieutenant General Lang Tombong Tamba, assisted by GFF Ex-CO Member, Alagi Faye.
The committee will be responsible for all essential logistics for the successful organisation of the tournament, and besides any other matter relating to super nawetan. The GFF will serve as an oversight body.
“While we congratulate all participating zones and as well welcome the new entrants, the GFF wishes to emphasise the need for fair play, game spirit and good sportsmanship to be maintained throughout the tournament period and that no indiscipline in any form would be tolerated.
The rules and regulations governing the tournament would be applied to the latter without exception. In this regard, the GFF solicits the support and cooperation of the general public while assuring all stakeholders of another successful 2017 campaign”.
