Gambian Swedish 2nd Division player Fatoumata Gassama says she is honoured to be invited to play for her country ahead of the Female Scorpions clash with Nigeria’s Female side.
Miss Gassama, 23 and playing for IF Eker Orebro is a striker and will be hoping to make her first appearance in competitive match for The Gambia when the Female Scorpions host Nigeria.
Coach Mariama Bom Sowe’s girls will entertain the Super Falcons in the first leg of the qualifiers on June 6 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. Gambia eliminated Burkina Faso in the first round of the qualifiers.
“Football in Sweden is a bit different from here; but I am catching up. I am very ready to help the team and play for my country of birth,” the 23-year old Latrikunda Sabiji born said.
She admitted Nigeria being a big side but said she is confident that the Girls will give a respectable performance. “I urge Gambians to come out in numbers to support the team. We need everyone’s support.”
Ask how she was discovered by the GFF, Gassama said she usually trains with the Abuko United Female team when she was on holiday in Gambia. “I guess that’s where they got the information about me. I hope to play for my country in many games to come.”
