Fast Ali’s Restaurant thieves convicted

Modou Lamin Camara and Mamudou Baldeh pleaded guilty to stealing and breaking into Fast Ali’s Restaurant at Westfield. Modou Lamin Camara was convicted by Magistrate Joof of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to a fine of D5000 on count two and three each in default to serve one year imprisonment. He pleaded guilty on all the counts and was cautioned and discharged on count one.

Mamudou Baldeh was also convicted and sentenced to a fine of D5000 on count two and three each in default to serve one year imprisonment. He pleaded not guilty on count one and was cautioned and discharged.

But the third accused, Foday Camara, pleaded not guilty on all the counts and was remanded at Mile Two Prisons.

Prosecutors alleged on count one that Foday Camara, Modou Lamin Camara and Mamudou Baldeh on 8 July, 2019, at Fast Ali’s Restaurant at Westfield, in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, conspired with intent to commit a felony to wit: stealing.

On count two, it was alleged that they broke into the restaurant of one Ali Jawad with intent to commit a felony therein to wit: stealing.

The bill of indictment, which was presented to the court by Prosecutor Inspector Bobb on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, indicated on count three that the accused stole the following from the restaurant: a safe containing the sum of D150, 000, two simple Techno mobile phones valued at D2000 and a router valued at D3000, totalling D155,000, the property of Ali Jawad.

Since Foday Camara pleaded not guilty to all the counts, the prosecuting officer, Inspector Bobb, is expected to parade her witnesses to tell the court what they know about the matter.

Proceedings will continue.
