Club of Fajara, a registered charitable organisation in The Gambia last
Wednesday donated cricket materials to The Gambia Cricket Association at a
ceremony held at the Association’s Headquarters at McCarthy Square in Banjul.
The donated items which were in twenty four boxes included senior and junior gloves, thigh pads, four sets of batting pads, socks, jerseys and hard rubber balls.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the President of The Gambia Cricket Association Johny Gomez expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Fajara and hailed the efforts of the former Minister of Youth and Sports Henry Gomez for facilitating the donation.
He described the gesture as timely and expressed optimism that the relationship between the Association and the Rotary Club will continue to be fruitful.
He pointed out that the materials are mainly for junior players and have come at the right time as they are preparing for both the summer under 19 tournament as well as their new season.
Secretary General of Rotary Club of Fajara, Rossell Cryer said the materials were obtained from a cricket club in the United Kingdom. He noted that the gesture is geared towards cricket development in the country and reaffirmed the club’s commitment to add value to the lives of Gambians.
The Rotary Club of Fajara is a fundraising charitable organization and registered NGO which focuses on community–based development projects. It also operates an education scholarship program for needy but meritorious students and a host of other initiatives.
