He added that it is not here to witch-hunt the previous Jammeh government or propaganda for the Barrow government.
“We are an independent institution; we are not a propaganda arm of the Barrow administration, and we are not a witch hunting institution to witch hunt the previous government,” he said.
He was speaking in an exclusive interview with our reporter on the sideline of the press conference dubbed ‘Bring Jammeh 2 Justice Campaign’ held at The Gambia Centre for Victims of Human Rights Violations in Kololi.
According to Mr. Jallow, the TRRC is here to investigate and discover the truth about human right violations that had happened. “We are not interested either in promoting the government agenda or witch hunts the previous government. So we are an independent institution that is just out to bring out the truth of what happened over the past 22 years,” he noted.
He said when the commission starts and some of these perpetrators are mentioned in testimonies, the commission will make sure that they come and testify.
“They will be invited to testify and if they are not willing to come, then they will be summoned to appear before the commission. And if they refuse, we will order the police to arrest them. Whoever is named as being responsible for a crime will have to appear before the commission so long they are in The Gambia, he noted.
He assured that the Bring Jammeh 2 Justice Campaign project will be given all the support, pointing out that he personally supports the initiative even though the TRRC is yet to commence.
Mr. Jallow further added that they have noted all the recommendations highlighted during the press conference of Bring Jammeh 2 Justice. “I have noted all the information and I have the report with me,” he said. “Therefore, we will be working very closely with every piece of evidence that come out from now until our mandate ends regarding the atrocities that were committed during the Jammeh era.”
