annual UN peace concert, which aims to promote peace and adopted resolution
55/282, is each year celebrated on 21st September, dubbed “World Day of Peace.”
It will also be celebrated this year in The Gambia, according to Momodou Lamin Jarjue, alias Rongo.
“We felt honoured to complement the efforts of the United Nations regarding that worthwhile initiation and celebration. We are organising the Gambian part of the celebration with an active member of a voluntary adhoc committee,” he said.
The event in The Gambia is sponsored by Timeless Company Ltd. The Gambia, Rongo said.
He told the media that the manner in which they wanted to celebrate the event is by acknowledging the significance of the day, through a musical concert performance to positively convey the message of peace.
“Our adhoc team of a voluntary organising committee for this free international day of peace concert is non-political, primarily aimed at promoting peace and cooperation, through inter-cultural entertainment sensitisation for national development purpose,” Rongo told local journalist recently.
The organising committee for the UN Peace Concert said the venue of the concert is Arch 22 in the capital Banjul on 23 September 2017, and will be a free open concert.
Rongo will perform a song, that’s composed and dedicated for world peace. Many other Gambian musicians will perform on that day too.
“We want to use this opportunity to thank Timeless Company Gambia Ltd. for fully funding this year’s event.
“The day is important, because peace is important not only for me and you, but the entire world; peace should be everyone’s business and that’s why the day is set aside to celebrate peace.”
