Wright, an English philanthropist on Friday donated fishing rod and equipment
to the Boating and Fishing Association (BFA) of Denton Bridge.
Speaking at the handing over of the equipment at the Denton Bridge Tourist Market, Mrs. Wright said she decided to assist the association after finding that the equipment they were using was poor during her visit in the country last year.
“The fishermen were struggling with the equipment and that touched my heart which necessitated me to give them assistance. Upon my return to England I mobilized fishermen to donate their fishing rod to The Gambia Boating and Fishing Association,” she said.
She said the donation is just the beginning, saying they are loading a full container with lot of fishing equipment that will be delivered to the association. She said the container is expected to arrive in January, next year.
Ousman Jarra of the National Tourist Guides Association who facilitated the link expressed gratitude to the donor for her unflinching support to the association, saying the assistance will contribute immensely to the daily activities of the association.
He said Denton Bridge is one of the fishing sites where many tourists visit and do fishing and boating exercises, saying the support will boast the welfare of the beneficiary fishermen.
President of Boarding and Fishing Association Sambou Sonko commended the donor and described the donated items as timely. “The gesture is timely and helpful because most of the equipment is not available here in the country and tourists always need them.”
