Dutch National Case Goes to Kanifing

The trial of Marc Mauriece Alfred Vanmaldegum, a Dutch national, is to be transferred to the Kanifing Magistrates' Court according to the police prosecution ASP Touray.

According to ASP Touray, the prosecution had received the opinion from the Attorney General's Chambers. He said the offence recommended on the charge falls within the Kanifing jurisdiction.

ASP Touray further added that he was applying for an adjournment to enable him to file the case at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court and that he would come at a later date to make the necessary application.

The Dutch national, who is the operational Manager of Kombo Beach Hotel, is alleged to have aided the escape of Andrew Charles Northfield, the General Manger of Carnegie Minerals Company.

According to the particulars of the alleged offence, on 3rdSeptember 2008 in Banjul and diverse places, Mr Vanmaldegum aided a trial prisoner Andrew Charles Northfield to escape.

Magistrate Lamin George of the Banjul Magistrates' Court had presided over the case.

The case was then adjourned to 16thDecember 2008.

It could be recalled that Andrew Charles Northfield the General Manger of Carnegie Mineral Company and the Company itself had been standing trial at the Banjul High Court on charges of Economic Crime and theft.
