A Dutch foundation called ‘St. Onderwijs VOOR Gambia’ which means ‘Education for Gambia’ in collaboration with Lift Nursery School in Sukuta-Madina Thursday donated 82 bags of rice, school materials and stuff to needy families of the community.

The donation was made possible thanks to the support of Amy and FRANC VAN DEN Becker, ambassadors of the foundation.

Speaking at the presentation, Mr Franc said the donation of the bags of rice is part of the organisation’s mission to support the families of the students they are sponsoring.

He said the aims of the foundation include increasing the level of education of the children.  Teachers of Lift Primary School are paid by the foundation as part of its continuous help to the school.

He said the foundation seeks to continue helping in the maintenance of the school and it also hopes to provide sewing and milling machines to Sukuta-Madina.

The foundation has also presented cartons of secondhand clothes to the Sukuta-Madina Development Association.

Mr Franc thanked supporters of the foundation in Holland for it is them who always made the activities of the association possible in The Gambia.

The Education for Gambia foundation was registered in Holland with the slogan ‘education is a right’.

In receiving the donated items, headmistress of Lift Nursery School, Halimatou Jabbi, thanked the donors for their “timely intervention”.

He said the recent donation is the fourth presentation of bags of rice to needy families in Sukuta-Madina and its environs.

She said starting from the 2015/2016 academic year, the foundation is to provide school lunch for all the pupils of Lift Nursery School whether under the foundation’s sponsorship or not.
