Driver arraigned for multiple offences

A driver was recently arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Tabally, charged with three counts of careless driving, duty to stop in case of accident and failing to report an accident.

Melvell Williams, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, was granted bail of D20,000 with a Gambian surety.

The charge sheet on count one read that, on 29th January 2010 along Ndow’s Senior Secondary School, the defendant, Melvell Williams, drove a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 6042D without due care and attention, and thereby caused an accident.

Count two stated that on the same date and place, he knocked one Fatou Jobe, and failed to stop.

Count three revealed that the defendant, Melvell Williams, drove the said vehicle, got involved in an accident and failed to report the said accident.

The case was adjourned to 4th January 2010.
