Current league champions Gambia Armed Forces, who are occupying third place will have to beat their opponents in the second round to pile pressure on league leaders Gamtel and second-place Gambia Ports Authority in order to increase their hopes of retaining their league crown at the end of the season.
Real De Banjul, Fortune and Tallinding United are mid-table and will eye to win their matches in second round to keep pressure on teams above them in the league. Brikama United and Marimoo are few places above safety in the top-flight league. Both sides will fight to win their matches in the second round to improve their position in the league.
Hawks and Banjul are two places and one place respectively above relegation in the top-flight league. Both clubs will contest to win their matches in the second round to improve their position in the league in order to avoid relegation to the second tier and stay in the top flight for yet another season.
Steve Biko and Bombada are occupying second-place from bottom and bottom-place in that order in the top flight.

Waa Banjul, Immigration and Serrekunda United are occupying relegation zone in the second tier after their poor performance in the first round. The trio will battle to win their matches in the second round to increase their hopes of staying in the second tier for yet another season.
