DLEAG thwarts 2018 biggest cannabis smuggle

Friday, January 26, 2018

Operatives of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency The Gambia (DLEAG) have recently arrested three suspects, with others on the run for smuggling over 400 suspected bundles of cannabis sativa in the Foni Bintang Karanai District of the West Coast Region (WCR), The Point can authoritatively report.

The suspects are currently under the custody of the narcotic officers as investigation continues.

The arrest of the suspects has been described by many as one of the biggest ‘catch’ so far by DLEAG officers in 2018 as narcotic officers continue their effort in making the country free from drug related issues.

The public relations officer (PRO) DLEAG, Ousman Saidybah has confirmed the development to our reporter. PRO Saidybah said that Yahya Gibba, 37, a native of Bajagar village was arrested by DLEAG officers with 265 big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa packed in a horse-cart at Jakoi Sedric village also in the Foni Bintang Karanai District.

He said two other suspects believed to be Senegalese nationals who were with Gibba absconded but said narcotic officers are currently man hunting them.

In a separate development, the DLEAG spokesman added that a Gambian and a Senegalese national were also arrested by narcotic officers at Jagil village in Foni Bintang-Karenai District in the WCR with over 200 suspected cannabis sativa. “The suspects Momodou Jallow and Babucarr Ndure are currently in our custody helping us in our investigation,” he divulged.
