Law Enforcement Agency The Gambia (DLEAG) in partnership with the Council of
elders and young people of Bambara village in Foni Bondali district recently
held a day-long sensitisation on drug and its negative impact.
The sensitisation was part of DLEAG’s drug demand reduction strategy to curb drug related menace and foster public support. The program stemmed from obstruction faced by operatives when they attempt to arrest suspected drug dealers.
The sensitisation was witnessed by responsible authorities with presentations and discussions centered on the effects of drugs and related crimes, legal provisions, immigration related matters, role of society in curbing drugs and crime.
The elders expressed remorse over the incident and assured law enforcement agents of their support and cooperation in the fight to end drug use and trafficking.
Community elders said, drug law agents enforces laws enacted by the parliament for public safety and protection. Government pays them and purchase support materials and equipment from taxpayers’ contribution including other sources of government revenue. “We must therefore understand that these materials and equipment belong to all of us,” one of the elders said.
