Federation; a ChildFund The Gambia local partner in Foni, Saturday held their
third Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Mayork Senior Secondary School.
The AGM brought together 260 delegates from the 13 community associations of the federation, including stakeholders, parents and community-based organisations.
The Federation’s board chairman Momodou Lamin Badjie said the annual gathering is a policy requirement of the institution where stakeholders gather to discuss challenges and progress made during the year under review. He said the 2019 fiscal year was the third year since they became a fully-fledged federation after merging Ding-Ding federation and Eastern Foni Federation in February 2017.
Deputising the governor of West Coast Region, Omar Fatty said the turn-out of stakeholders indicate that the progress the federation is making in enhancing both the livelihood of its sponsored children and their families is recognised.
ChildFund The Gambia sponsorship and programs director Nfamara Darboe commended the federation for successfully working in conformity with the expectation of the merger.
He said the merger has enabled them to maximise resources, to implement more development programs for the needy children and appealed to the federation authorities to remain focused and to work towards changing the living conditions of the needy children.
Federation manager Edi Bah said the aim of the AGM is to look into their three main core life stages and review the success stories and challenges faced by the federation in its past development programs.
Mr. Bah pointed out that some of the challenges faced by the federation include funding and high cancellation rate which, he said are affecting the implementation of their programs as planned.
According to him, despite the challenges the federation continues to provide the much needed services to improve the lives of the deprived, excluded and vulnerable children, families and communities.
He thanked ChildFund for being a true and genuine partner over the years by providing 98% of their funds to implement programs. He also thanked the Government of the Gambia for creating an enabling environment and the World Food Program (WFP) for working closely with the federation for the distribution of 6116 bags of 50kg to 3058 families in Foni Jarrol, Foni Berefet and part of Foni Bintang.
