deputy speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Momodou L. Sanneh, says tax and
tax related matters are complicated, but assured that lawmakers would continue
the partnership with Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) to ensure effective tax
He added that The Gambia is a tax based economy and that “we cannot avert revenue collection and generation,” adding that enlightening legislators on key issues about current development on GRA Tax Management System is essential.
He said GRA deserves commendation for engaging lawmakers to have a better understanding of tax laws and its related mandates as a revenue authority. “Today’s gathering is organised by GRA to sensitise and enlighten members of National Assembly on key issues on the current development by GRA on Tax Management System,” he said. “As lawmakers, the forum will avail members the opportunity to discuss on tax administration; issues of doubt and seek for clarifications.”
For her part, the board chairperson of GRA, Madam Lucy Faye, commended the National Assembly members for accepting to participate in the one day seminar designed for lawmakers.
She gave a brief account of the structure of the board of GRA, which she said comprises diverse, experienced people who give good advice to the GRA management to register success.
She also challenged the National Assembly members to recognise the work of GRA, which she said is very challenging as tax collectors. She also assured that the board will continue to guide the management of GRA so that they would continue to collect the much needed revenue for government.
