Gambia Friends and The Gambia Project recently inaugurated a new borehole and
toilet facilities at the Darsilameh Upper Basic School in Brikama South.
The project came following a visit to the school by their German friends earlier on, where they saw the need to assist the community, especially the school with the much needed facilities.
Besides, the project was also designed to improve the hygienic conditions of people living in the area.
Ferdinand Franz, director of the sponsor group at Diabgroup Gambia Friends project, recalled that since 2002 they have been involved in numerous projects in the community, adding that since that period they saw the need to help the community with such basic necessities.
He indicated that the initiative was also meant to tackle malaria and other water infection diseases, thereby improving the hygiene condition in the school.
He emphasised the importance of water as well as standard toilet facilities for the school.
He on behalf of his group expressed their delight to inaugurate such a project in the school.
Osuman Sillah, principal of Darsilameh Upper Basic School, hailed the donors for the ‘timely’ gesture.
While underscoring the importance of water in life, Sallah acknowledged that with the coming of that projects into the school, it would ensure proper and conducive learning at the school.
He promised that they would ensure that facilities are managed well to ensure it served its purpose.
Seedy Cham, country director of Diabgroup Gambia Friends, hailed the sponsors for their foresight, while at the same time commending their team of contractors for their cooperation during the construction period.
