Darboe blamed for UDP, APRC clash in Tallinding’

The spokesperson of the opposition Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), Seedy Njie, has stated that the leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Ousainou Darboe, should be held responsible for the clash that broke out between supporters of the APRC and UDP in Tallinding.

“These are provocation and incitement and they want the country to descend into chaos. Lawyer Darboe, who has no control of his people and his party, should be held responsible for whatever happens. The APRC will never accept it and will never condone it and, we will do what it takes to ensure that justice is done,” he charged.

The APRC party spokesperson was speaking on Monday during a press conference held at the party’s new political bureau in Manjai Kunda. The APRC executive and party supporters attended the press conference.

“This is utter nonsense and its provocation and intention are very clear. He said that the UDP militants should have gone to lawyer Darboe’s or Talib Bensouda’s house to celebrate instead of going to Fabakary Tombong Jatta’s house, adding that’s provocation.

For the past 22 years, he said, the APRC has been in power and never had they gone to celebrate at lawyer Ousainou Darboe’s house, adding that the security forces also contributed to the incident.

The party leader of the APRC, Fabakary Tombong- Jatta, said the party did well in the just concluded mayorship and chairpersonship elections despite all the challenges and hurdles.

The former majority leader of the National Assembly said they are investigating to find out whether the just concluded election was free, fair and credible, adding that they will make a pronouncement on that. The counting, he went on, was done on the spot and when it was counted, it is recorded for all party agents to certify the result for confirmation Darboe before it is signed by the presiding officer.

“Each of the agents is given a result slip. Where a presiding officer asks all the agents to sign a result slip before counting starts and he himself signs and keeps the result slip to himself when counting is not done, what will you enter in this result slips?” he querried.
