Maribantang Development Association (DAMBA), and their village development
committee in collaboration with U.K. philanthropists through Action Aid The
Gambia financed the 24 hours first phase of the solar electrification project
of the Dankunku Health Center.
According to the president of the DAMBA, Sulayman Mboge, this is the first phase of their project which was valued at one hundred and seventy thousand dalasis. He informed that the lion share of the solar electrification was funded by the British couple, Jackie Drewetty and Bryan Drewetty who contributed sixty seven thousand dalasis through Action –Aid The Gambia aimed at supporting the electrification of this rural project.
Mr. Mboge said that the intervention of this couple through Action –Aid The Gambia was very timely, as the health center lacked so many facilities ranging from water supply and electricity, saying it was a major concern for them.
With this intervention, he said, the lack of electricity has now become history at Dankunku Health Center. However, he said, there are still challenges, and to overcome these challenges, he opined, that the health center needs over five hundred thousand dalasis to be fully equipped.
Mr. Mboge went on to thank the donors through Action-Aid The Gambia for their immensely contribution which he said was in no small measure.
In his welcome remarks, the chief of Dankunku Alhagie Sulayman Keita, who was full of joy; thanked the donors through Action –Aid The Gambia for this intervention. He was quick to describe the donors as real partners in development. He also seized the opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous contribution of the donors.
Giberiel Fatty, chairperson of the health and environment committee of DAMBA spoke extensively about the stance of the association and the rationale behind forming the association, with plans that they intend to embark on towards the development of Dankunku.
The U.K. couple expressed impression about what they have seen on the ground at the Dankunku Heath Center. They therefore promised to render more support to the health centre.
The couple equally donated medicines, hospital equipment, learning materials and clothing among other things to the health center.
Other speakers include Dr. Saikou Sanyang, programme manager, Action –Aid The Gambia, Kudang Office, who also thanked the donors and the members of DAMBA for a job well done.
