Danish-based charity organisation; Girlfriend to Girlfriend International,
through its Gambia chapter over the weekend distributed cash amounting to 180,
000 dalasi loan to thirty-six members to start business.
Recipients of the loan came from Kanifing Municipality, West Coast and North Bank Regions with each of them receiving 5, 000 dalasi.
The Organisation’s country Ambassador Sulayman Jammeh, said over the years they have been implementing series of development projects within Kanifing Municipality and other regions.
According to him, the microfinance loan initiative started with 25 women as a pilot project in 2014 and due to the recipients’ commitment in the payment of the loan, they decided to make it yearly for other women in small scale trading to benefit.
Mr. Jammeh, also the ward councilor of Bundung Mauritania six junction, said the organisation is also working on modalities on how to expand its microfinance loan programme to other villages and regions. “We thank the Girlfriend to Girlfriend community in Denmark for the support to women empowerment in The Gambia.”
Louis Torbense Founder said,they have been operating since 2014, making positive impact on the lives and livelihood of members. She urged beneficiaries to ensure repaying the loans at the right time. “We have the objective to alleviate poverty and support women advancement by engaging them in small business,” she said.
Alagie Sillah thanked Sulayman Jammeh for his honesty and the heart he has for the people of Bundung.
