Bikes for Gambian Schools; a Czech-based charity has donated 312 bicycles to
Lower River Region (LRR) schools held at The Gambia Red Cross Society head
office in Kanifing.
Project coordinator Silvester Tkac said the charity was established in 2013 to assist Gambian schools and since then they have donated 7, 300 bicycles to Gambian schools. “We are operating all over the country and now we are partnering with more than 45 schools in the country.”
Mr. Tkac said regions: 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be the beneficiaries of their new consignment of bicycles. He said they are receiving very positive feedback from their beneficiary schools because students now comes to school in time and they are more focused during lessons.
He said The Gambia Red Cross provided them a store where they keep their new arrival of bicycles and help them in the distribution which led them to sign a memorandum of understanding last year.
Alssan Senghore, Gambian Red Cross Society secretary general said they had an agreement with Czech Bikes for Gambian Schools to work together and support The Gambian schools and students mobility in the form of providing.
Mr. Senghore said the bicycles will have huge positive impact on the education of the students, as they will facilitate their early arrival to school.
Hamang Kanyi, vice principal of Keneba Upper and Senior Secondary School said they are grateful to the donors, saying: “Without them most of our students will be coming to school always late.”
