Bike for Gambian Schools, a charitable Organisation based in Czech Republic on
2 November 2017 donated bicycles to Mayork and Tahir Senior Secondary Schools
in the West Coast Region and Lower Region respectively.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the Gunjur Cooperative, the Charity Director Roman Posolda, said they started supporting Gambian students with bicycles in 2012, adding that sixty-six schools are benefiting from the charity.
Posolda stated that the charity has targeted region two to region six, noting that the charity supports less privileged children.
Posolda further stated that the bicycles were donated to the students but some schools have misused it.
He revealed that in some schools principals use the bicycles instead of students, stressing that the bicycles were donated to students who travel from far places.
He said that Mayork and Tahir were receiving 70 donated bicycles each and encouraged beneficiaries to take care of the bicycles.
Yunus Komma, coordinator Czech Bikes for Gambia Schools, said the charity targeted regions two to six, adding sixty-six schools have benefited from the charity.
For his part, Abubacarr Nyabally, principal of Tahir Senior School, said the support would aid students in his school, adding that many students travel kilometres to the school.
