Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs has recently concluded a two-day
training on Public Finance Management for Civic Society Organisations (CSOs)
and the media to expose them to the new strategy of Treasury Single Account
(TSA) initiative. The training was held at a local hotel in Kololi,
Board chairperson of The Association of Non-Government Organisation, Ansumana Yabo, said part of their work is to sensitise the grassroots to be aware of activities of government. “The consultation would help in supporting accountability mechanisms for the Ministry of Finance. It would also help the ministry in the areas of transparency and support in the dissemination of key information regarding public finance.”
Mr. Yabo commended the Finance Ministry for what he described as a courageous move to provide the training to capacitate the participants on public finance management.
Yaya Drammeh, deputy accountant general at the Ministry of Finance, said the forum ensured effective and efficient high levels of transparency and accountability in the management of public finance. Through various initiatives, civil society organisations have dissemination network in reinforcing government effort in this respect.
He said the forum would concentrate on Treasury Single Account (TSA), being pursued by the government with the objective to ensure effective management of government funds, in order to provide real time access to financial information regarding the revenues and expenditures as well as improving transparency and accountability of public funds”, he said.
