Court grants leave for more suspects to be added in bail application on second NIA case

Wednesday, May 23, 2018

Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of High Court in Banjul yesterday granted leave to amend the originating summons for six more suspects to be added to the list of applicants seeking High Court bail in the matter involving the State and nine accused persons (former officials of the defunct NIA).

Three suspects; Quassy Mendy, Leon Gomez and Bakary Jammeh had earlier filed an originating summons seeking High Court bail and when the matter came up last Monday, 14th May, 2018 the State was unrepresented and the State law office did not file any processes whether it was opposing or conceding to the application for bail.

During yesterday sitting, the State law office was humbly represented by two lawyers; Abdourahman Bah and Mbye who indicated that the state was opposing the application for bail for the three accused persons.

However, the court granted leave for six more suspects’ names to be added and they are Malafi Jarju, Ansumana Manga, Yankuba Colley, Momodou Badjie, Lamin Bojang and James Mendy.

It could be recalled that the accused persons are charged with accessory after the fact to murder and the prosecution alleged that the accused persons allegedly assisted in burying the late Solo Sandeng in April, 2016.

Hearing continues on the 29th May, 2018 between 12 noon and 1:00 p.m.
