Convicted driver fined D2,500

Magistrate Bojang of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Ebrima Jawo to a fine of D2,500 in default to serve six months in prison.

Ebrima Jawo, who admitted to the offence of careless driving, was ordered to pay a compensation of D82,955 to BB Electrical Construction Company.

The facts narrated by ASI Trawally stated that it happened on 24 January 2015, when the defendant was driving a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 6159 H, a commercial vehicle from the direction of Senegambia heading to the stadium.

Upon arrival at Kairaba Traffic Lights Junction, there was another vehicle with registration number BJL 7216 H Benz 190 taxi, which was coming from the direction of Bakau heading to Westfield and, as a result, collided with the said vehicle resulting in the knocking of the Traffic Light pole, causing damage to the said pole.

The traffic police at Kairaba were there and they visited the scene and in the presence of both drivers, who signed the sketched plan.

Their statements were obtained.

The BB Electrical Construction Company came and gave the cost of the damage traffic light pole, which was D82,955.
