Gambia captain Omar Colley has completed his move to Sampdoria penning a four-year contract with the Italian Serie A club.
Gambia Sports confirmed last week that the Scorpions defender was close to finalizing his transfer to Italy after completing mandatory medical tests.
He now joins the one-time Italian Serie A winners and four-time Coppa Italia champions, who have forked out €7.75m in transfer plus €2m to secure his services from Belgian club KRC Genk.
The deal was confirmed in a statement on Sampdoria’s website, while reports suggest the former Wallidan and Djurgården IF player put pen to paper on a contract worth €850,000 plus bonuses.
“I am happy to be here and it’s an honor to be part of this great family. (The move) is like the biggest step of my career. I can’t wait to get started,” the 25-year-old said after completing the transfer.
Colley, who made 95 appearances for Genk in two seasons, becomes the most expensive Gambian player after Modou Barrow.
